130 The Sengoku Slacker
Reincarnated into the Sengoku period as Owada Takemaru, a man from the modern world finds himself the heir to a minor family in the remote Mutsu Province. Though he was reportedly born clutching “divine gifts” of rice and sweet potatoes, the “cheat” proved useless: the potatoes were mummified and the rice was polished, making them impossible to plant.
Disillusioned by this sloppy miracle, Takemaru spent the next seven years as a dedicated slacker, lounging on his veranda and earning titles like “the greatest idler under heaven.” Living in the cold Hamadori region of what would later be Fukushima, he faces a staggering 10-to-1 population disadvantage compared to the powerful central provinces. Realizing that traditional rice farming is a losing battle in such a harsh climate, Takemaru decides to abandon the struggle of the paddy fields. By focusing on alternative crops and simply ensuring his people can eat, the self-proclaimed “Sengoku Slacker” begins an unconventional path that might just lead to the conquest of the entire country.
