Chapter 7: The Senior from the Cooking Club (Another Perspective)

Saeki Hina’s Perspective

Today was finally my first day of high school.

The school I would be attending was Prefectural Nishi High School.

It wasn’t one of the very top schools, but it was still a well-regarded college-preparatory school with fairly high academic standards.

Preparing for the entrance exams during middle school had been tough, so I was really glad I’d passed.

I hadn’t joined any clubs in middle school, but now that I was finally a high school student, I wanted to be part of one.

Sports weren’t really my thing, so it would probably have to be a cultural club.

There seemed to be plenty to choose from, like the Literature Club and the English Conversation Club.

But since I loved cooking, maybe the Cooking Club would be a good fit.

I decided to go check it out after school.

After chatting with a few classmates once classes were over, I headed to the cooking room to visit the Cooking Club.

When I got there, I found a boy cooking by himself.

When I asked, he told me he was a second-year member of the Cooking Club.

His name was Mogami-senpai.

His appearance was fairly ordinary, but he had a surprisingly sharp and well-defined look.

The more I looked at him, the more I noticed how well-built he was.

He looked like someone who would be good at sports.

He was making nikujaga, so I asked him all sorts of questions about how to prepare it.

He answered every one of them patiently and thoroughly.

When I tasted it, he said it still wasn’t quite good enough, but I thought it was already delicious.

With how athletic he looked, why was he in the Cooking Club?

The contrast was really surprising.

He even walked me to the station on the way home and listened to everything I had to say.

I love talking, so I tend to chatter on and on without realizing it.

But the senior from the Cooking Club listened to me the entire time.

Even my friends rarely stay with me until I’ve finished talking.

I didn’t think anyone had ever listened to me so attentively from the very first time we met.

Somehow, I had a feeling that if I joined the Cooking Club, I would have a really enjoyable high school life.

Maybe I’d submit my club registration form as early as tomorrow.
