Chapter 6: Setting Out Seven Years Late!

“May, thank you as always.”

May reported the completion of her final Golden Lizard hunt to the village’s older sister.

She also waved with a smile to the three children.

“See you later, everyone!”

On this day, May finally left the village.

After following the river through the jungle for two hours, she arrived at a small port.

According to the female player who had explored the island recently, her discovery of the island had led to the construction of this port as a new destination for shipping routes.

From now on, other players would likely start arriving as well.

“The ocean!”

Boarding a small sailing ship that had just arrived, May set out across the dazzling sea.

Leaving behind the jungle where she had spent seven years, she headed toward a large port city.

“This is so exciting.”

“This is what an adventure is all about!”

Schools of fish leaped alongside the pristine white ship.

Standing at the bow, May’s anticipation for the unseen world ahead only grew stronger.

And so, the strongest wild warrior finally made her way toward civilization.

“Wow…”

“There are this many players?”

May arrived at Laughteria, a large port city in the southern seas.

As one of the major transit hubs connecting destinations across the world, the city was bustling with people.

Shops lined the broad avenue paved with white stone.

Merchant players running stalls displayed all kinds of items for sale.

Simply walking around and looking at everything was entertaining.

“Wow!”

“I wonder what that is!”

“And what’s over here!?”

Having just emerged from an unexplored land, May darted back and forth excitedly.

She stared in admiration at cool-looking armor and became delighted by cute accessories—

Then suddenly:

[Attention everyone. The regular Battle Royale event will now begin.]

An announcement echoed through the city.

[Participants are requested to gather within the designated harbor area. We look forward to your participation.]

“An event!”

“There’ll probably be a lot of strong players in something like this, but…”

“Since I’m here anyway, I should try it!”

May headed toward the harbor district, where ships and warehouses stood side by side.

The players gathering there were all equipped with obviously powerful weapons and armor.

Among them stood a single girl in battered starting equipment, waiting eagerly.

Watching May smile happily while waiting for the event to begin, a heavily armored warrior and a dual-wielding swordsman tilted their heads.

“…Starting gear?”

“Why’s it so worn out… did she get stranded somewhere?”

That wasn’t entirely wrong.

“Looks like she joined the wrong event.”

“Most of the people here are pretty strong.”

“Beginners are just easy prey in a place like this…”

The two exchanged sympathetic smiles.

Completely unaware of what they were saying, May waited for the event to start.

According to the announcement, the rules were simple.

Players would earn points through kills, damage dealt, and creating exciting moments.

Rankings would be determined based on those points.

Rewards such as items and skill books would then be distributed according to placement.

[The event will now begin.]

[Battle Royale… Start!]

“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”

“Yeah!”

May enthusiastically raised her fist together with the crowd.

Her first event ever had begun.

“You came to the wrong place!”

“Gotchaaaaa!”

A rogue-like player immediately rushed toward May, targeting her obvious starting equipment.

He thrust forward an expensive-looking dagger.

“Whoops.”

The fight lasted only an instant.

May sidestepped gracefully and responded with an upward slash.

Victory in a single hit.

“…Huh?”

Unable to comprehend what had happened, the rogue dissolved into particles and disappeared.

“Now’s my chance!”

“[Power Smash]!!”

A warrior lunged at her next, unleashing a powerful horizontal swing from his battle axe.

“Whoa.”

May simply jumped straight upward.

As soon as she landed, she thrust her sword forward.

“…What?”

He too was turned into particles by a single strike.

Two victories in a row.

Watching from the shadows at a distance was an archer.

“Sonic Arrow!”

A pure white arrow flew toward her at tremendous speed.

“!”

May dodged it with nothing more than a slight movement of her neck.

Then—

“You asked for it!”

“[Stone Throw]!”

“Guaaah!”

The stone she threw in return blasted the archer away.

“Hey, what was that!?”

“He was almost a hundred meters away!”

“How can she see arrows from that distance and still land a [Stone Throw]!?”

Finally, people began noticing that something was wrong.

May’s skill [Far Sight] allowed her to clearly observe the movements of distant targets.

“…[Fire Bolt].”

Meanwhile, [Enhanced Hearing] ensured that even the faintest whispers couldn’t escape her notice.

“[Bambi Step]!”

The instant she heard the quiet chant, May leaped backward with a series of large, graceful steps.

The fireball exploded where she had been standing.

Flames surged upward.

“Yaaah!”

The next moment, May burst through the flames and cut down the mage.

“Didn’t she start dodging before the spell was even cast!?”

The participants were finally beginning to panic.

“…There are so many different skills.”

Meanwhile, May was simply fascinated by all the player skills she was seeing for the first time.

“I can’t let myself fall behind either!”

With renewed enthusiasm, she charged at another group of players rushing toward her.

“[Sword Bash]!”

“Oh come on, a beginner skill?”

“This is exactly why new players are—gwaaaarghhhh!!”

Using a skill that everyone learned by level five, she blasted around fifteen players away at once.

“W-What is that damage!?”

“How does [Sword Bash] become an area attack!?”

“What kind of attack stat does she have!?”

“But that’s just a shortsword…!”

The participants descended into chaos as May sent them flying one after another.

The power of the basic skill [Sword Bash], which scaled with Strength, had reached the level of an explosive weapon.

“[Sword Bash]!”

“And then… [Sword Bash]!”

Players were eliminated one after another under her relentless assault.

“And now for my ultimate move—!”

May raised her shortsword high overhead.

“H-Her ultimate move!?”

“[Sword Bash]!”

“It’s [Sword Bash] agaaaaaain!?”

Leaving behind those final cries, a group of young swordsmen were blown away and splashed dramatically into the sea.

The appearance of this monstrous newcomer finally sent the entire event into an uproar.

She looked like a beginner.

Her level was anything but.

And May’s rampage was far from over.
