Chapter 4: Words That Kill
For the sake of the peaceful life I lived in the ordinary world, I had to run with everything I had.
Besides, if they caught me and beat me to a pulp, there was no way I’d make it to my date on time.
Then, as I sped along like the wind, an incredible line came flying at my back.
“WHAT THE H*LL DOES ‘YOUR VOCABULARY IS POOR’ EVEN MEAN, YOU BASTARD?!”
“Pfft!”
How could I not laugh?
For a scumbag, he was surprisingly funny.
And just as I’d expected, the advanced strategy of splitting up—one staying with Teruo-san while the other chased me—wasn’t something their combined scumbag brains could come up with.
Yep.
I’d called it.
No matter how many scumbags you multiplied together, all you got was even more scumbaggery.
Still chuckling to myself as I replayed “Your vocabulary is poor…” in my head, I sprinted through the streets of Kabukicho at full speed.
I might be hopeless in a fight, but I’d like to think my running ability was at least average.
This might actually work.
So far, everything was going according to plan.
The two idiots were chasing after me exactly as I’d hoped.
On top of that, they kept crashing into drunken pedestrians, stopping to yell at them, and wasting even more time.
This was looking easy.
I snapped another flash photo of them while they were busy shoving a drunk aside, provoking them even further before speaking into my phone.
“Yaduru, are these guys Apostles?”
The reply came in the voice of a young girl with slightly childish pronunciation.
“I don’t know.”
“I sent you the video, didn’t I?”
“They’re not any Apostles I recognize.”
“So this is unrelated?”
“They could be new Apostles.”
“Or they might be servants under the control of another Apostle.”
“‘Could be’ doesn’t help me.”
“They didn’t appear properly in the recording.”
“I’ll have to see them in person.”
“Figures…”
“Well, I guess it doesn’t really matter if they’re not.”
“What doesn’t matter?”
“Sending them over there…”
“No, wait.”
“I’ve still got one more option.”
“What are you going to do with the doggy?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
“Don’t worry about it, Yaduru.”
“Now I’m curious.”
“Don’t be.”
I ended the call before she could ask anything else.
Over on her end, she was probably dying to know what I meant by “doggy.”
Considering I’d dragged her into a situation that could easily turn life-threatening, making her curious was a pretty small price to pay.
“You THINK YOU CAN MAKE A FOOL OF US?!”
“I’M GONNA F*CKING KILL YOU, YOU BASTARD!!”
My precious followers had completely lost their minds.
Foam gathered at the corners of their mouths as they screamed what sounded like the language of the underworld while charging after me.
I darted into the hotel district bordering Kabukicho.
Looking back, I saw that both of them were still firmly locked onto me.
