Chapter 2: Reincarnation

“Waaaah!”

A tiny cry, one that didn’t even sound like my own, echoed through the room as I was wrapped in warm cloth.

“Waaah! Waaah!”

Tears streamed down my face on their own, and I cried with all my might.

At that moment, crying was the only thing I could do.

“Elena, you did wonderfully!”

“Thank you!”

“What an adorable child!”

“Yes, Balt.”

“This child is our…”

Surrounded by unfamiliar voices and scents, my tears refused to stop.

It seemed I had successfully been reincarnated.

‘Are they… my mom and dad?’

Large hands gently lifted me up, and the man called Balt smiled warmly as he looked into my face.

The handsome man with golden hair and green eyes was apparently my father.

Beside him stood a beautiful woman with brown hair and sapphire-blue eyes, whose gentle expression never left me.

“Welcome.”

“Your name is Celia.”

“May your life be healthy and filled with love and happiness.”

The moment I was given the name Celia, a calm, clear voice belonging to an adult woman echoed inside my mind.

[Lady Celia, it is a pleasure to meet you.

My name is Navi, and I will now serve as your navigator.]

…!!

Startled by the sudden voice in my head, my crying stopped instantly.

“Oh?”

“Celia, what’s wrong?”

“You suddenly stopped crying.”

“What a clever child.”

My father didn’t seem particularly concerned that I had suddenly gone quiet.

He simply smiled as he gazed at me.

Meanwhile, I was completely bewildered by the voice inside my head.

‘N-Navi?’

‘Who’s that?’

‘Is someone talking directly into my mind?’

‘Or am I hallucinating…!?’

As though sensing my confusion, the voice immediately replied.

[Lady Celia, please do not worry.

I am not a hallucination.

I am one of the functions included in the Beginner’s Starter Pack bestowed upon you by the god.]

‘The Beginner’s Starter Pack…?’

‘Ah, right!’

‘That’s what I chose before I was reincarnated!’

‘One of its functions?’

[Yes.

I am the Navigator function, implemented in response to the eighth most common request from previous reincarnated individuals:

“When I suddenly arrived in another world, I had no idea where to begin or what I was supposed to do.”]

Although I was still confused, realizing that the voice was part of the Beginner’s Starter Pack helped me calm down.

‘That scared me…’

‘It’s nice to meet you, Miss Navi.’

[Lady Celia, it is a pleasure to meet you as well.

As your navigator, I will support you to the best of my abilities.

However, restoring your strength is your highest priority right now.

Lady Celia, please get some rest.]

Without needing Navi to tell me, my newborn body quickly reached its limit.

Unable to resist exhaustion, I closed my eyes.

For the next month, I lived exactly as a baby should—sleeping, drinking milk, and sleeping again.

Once I reached one month old, the amount of time I stayed awake gradually increased.

Whenever my parents were busy running the inn, I quietly called out to the navigator in my mind.

‘Navi, can you hear me?’

Navi answered immediately in her calm voice.

[Yes, I can hear you.

Please feel free to simply call me Navi.]

‘Thanks, Navi.’

‘This is another world, right?’

‘Then why can I understand Mom and Dad perfectly even though they aren’t speaking Japanese?’

[That is the Language Comprehension skill, one of the Beginner’s Starter Pack functions.

It was implemented in response to the tenth most common request from previous reincarnated individuals:

“There were too many different languages in the other world, and learning them all was incredibly difficult.”]

‘Wow.’

‘I’m so happy I don’t have to worry about a language barrier!’

I cheered silently to myself.

That was honestly wonderful.

Now I’d be able to communicate with all kinds of people and manage basic conversations no matter where I went.

‘By the way, Navi.’

‘Where in Terralis am I?’

‘Can you tell me about this town?’

[You are currently in the Kingdom of Rosetta, one of the nations that exists in the world of Terralis.

This town is called Dietum, a frontier town located in the southern region of the kingdom.

Lady Celia’s parents operate an inn here.]

‘So I’m the daughter of an innkeeper in a frontier town.’

‘I had guessed they owned an inn from listening to Mom and Dad, but I didn’t realize we lived on the frontier.’

‘Actually… that might suit me better than living in a bustling royal capital.’

‘Can you also teach me about this world’s common knowledge?’

[Yes.

I can answer questions regarding magic, the history of Terralis, and many other subjects.

However, I cannot provide perfectly accurate information regarding emotions.]

‘Perfectly accurate?’

‘Does that mean you can make educated guesses?’

[Yes.

I can make predictions based on available information.

However, they remain only predictions.]

‘I understand.’

‘Whenever I need to know something, I’ll ask you.’

‘I’m counting on you.’

[Understood.]

Being able to ask Navi about anything I wanted to know was an incredibly convenient feature.

‘By the way, is there anything I should be doing right now?’

‘Anything I can actually do?’

[Lady Celia is still unable to move independently.

However, there is something you can do without moving.

That is training your mana control.]

‘Mana control?’

‘You mean using magic?’

[Mana control is the ability to sense the mana within your body and move it freely.

A mage who possesses excellent mana control can use their mana far more efficiently.]

‘Hmm…’

‘But can I actually use magic?’

[Yes.

Lady Celia possesses mana and is capable of using magic.

There are two methods for increasing the power of magic.

The first is leveling up by defeating monsters.

The second is improving your mana control.

Mana control can be practiced even while lying down, and the earlier one begins, the less time it takes to master.

I strongly recommend that Lady Celia begin improving her mana control immediately.

This training can be performed even while resting.]

‘That’s amazing!’

‘I can actually use magic!’

Looking down at my tiny hands, I opened and closed my fists while imagining myself casting magic.

My heart pounded with excitement.

[Lady Celia is still too young to cast magic.

However, mana control training is something you can begin now to prepare for that day.]

‘I understand!’

‘I’ll do my best with mana control training!’

‘Let’s get started right away!’

Following Navi’s guidance, I immediately began concentrating on the warm mana flowing throughout my body, practicing how to sense it.

Five months passed.

Learning to sense my mana proved far more difficult than I had expected.

Whenever I was awake, I devoted every moment to searching for and feeling the mana within me.

‘Hmm…’

‘There’s just so much mana…’

‘It’s hard to grasp all of it…’

[Lady Celia, please sense even the smallest traces of mana.]

Simply becoming aware of every stream of mana flowing through my body remained a struggle until I was six months old.

To make matters worse, I was still a baby.

The slightest lapse in concentration would overwhelm me with drowsiness.

“Zzz…”

Even when I felt I was finally beginning to understand my mana, my consciousness would fade, and I would immediately fall into a deep sleep.

Day after day, I waited for the brief moments when my parents were away before resuming my training.

Then, at last, I made a major breakthrough.

‘…I’ve got it!’

I successfully sensed every flow of mana throughout my body and gathered it all into a single point in my abdomen.

For the first time, I could clearly perceive every bit of mana within me.

[Correct.

You have successfully performed Mana Concentration by gathering all the mana in your body into a single location.]

‘I finally did it!’

‘That was so hard!’

[Lady Celia’s mana reserves far exceed the average adult mage in Terralis.

To consciously control such an enormous quantity of mana and gather it into a single point would normally require several years of training.

Accomplishing this in only six months while still in the body of an infant is unquestionably extraordinary talent.]

Hearing Navi praise my talent once again, I quietly made a little victory pose in my heart.

‘E-Extraordinary…’

‘When I have a goal, I’ve always been good at working hard toward it.’

‘Maybe my real talent is perseverance.’

‘Hehe.’

Silently, I made a promise to Navi.

‘Navi, I’ll keep working hard.’

‘I need to become strong enough to protect myself.’

[Navi will support Lady Celia with everything I have.

Now that Mana Concentration has been mastered, we will begin true mana control training tomorrow.

You will start practicing moving the mana you’ve gathered freely throughout your body.]

And so, as the daughter of an inn in a frontier town, Celia’s peaceful life plan truly began when she reached six months of age.
