Chapter 13

The morning in their new home arrived.

Chloe woke up as the morning sunlight streamed in through the window.

It seemed like another beautiful day.

“Hmm… I slept well.”

As she muttered that and sat up, her long black hair swayed softly.

The familiar color almost made her forget that she had been reincarnated into another world.

What day was it today? She had to go to work.

Thinking that, she hurriedly shook her head.

(I’m Chloe. Former marquess’s daughter. Currently on the run…)

After reminding herself, she stood up.

“…Chloe?”

It seemed Erich, who had been sleeping beside her, had also woken up.

His awakening wasn’t very sharp, and he looked at her with slightly unfocused eyes.

(So even handsome men look good right after waking up…)

She couldn’t help but admire that.

Sharing a bedroom was unavoidable due to the house’s layout, but having only one large bed had been a problem.

Still, Erich had refused to compromise.

“It’s not like we’re strangers who should be embarrassed at this point.”

“No, that’s exactly why. When did we even become that kind of relationship?”

That exchange already felt nostalgic.

Erich had found a very comfortable bed at a shop for a surprisingly reasonable price, and he had insisted on getting it.

Sleep was important, after all.

In the end, after trying it once, Chloe had also become captivated by its comfort and agreed to share it.

“You can sleep a little longer. I’ll make breakfast.”

“You’ll make it, Chloe?”

“Yeah. Just something simple.”

Smiling at Erich, who looked touched, Chloe headed to the kitchen.

In her previous life, where she loved eating out, she had also enjoyed cooking.

“What should I make? Breakfast… maybe fried eggs?”

On the kitchen table was a basket filled with ingredients.

Erich had bought them the night before.

She took out eggs and ham and began cooking.

“And then… what else? Miso soup… isn’t possible, so maybe vegetable soup?”

Most of the ingredients seemed similar to those from her previous life.

The food culture in this country seemed fairly developed, which made her happy.

She was already looking forward to trying dishes from various regions.

However, as expected, the cuisine here was mostly Western-style.

As a former Japanese person, she missed Japanese food, but there was nothing she could do.

In games or novels, protagonists somehow managed to get such ingredients.

But from what she had heard from Erich, it seemed difficult in this country.

“Ah, if only I had miso, soy sauce, and rice…”

She clasped her hands together and wished for it like a prayer.

Erich had said he had never heard of them, but he only knew this country.

Somewhere in the wide world, they might exist.

If she traveled, she might eventually find them.

“Ah, it’s burning!”

As she turned back to resume cooking, suddenly the item box screen appeared before her.

“Huh? What?”

Startled, she stared at the screen, and saw new text that hadn’t been there before.

Soy Sauce ×∞
Miso ×∞
Rice ×∞

“…Huh?”

Reading the words, she let out a dumbfounded sound.

“Could it be… I used magic?”

She hadn’t intended to put magical power into it, but she had spoken her wish aloud.

She had certainly wished for it, but seeing it granted so easily made her feel more confused than happy.

“Chloe?”

Hearing her voice, Erich—who should have still been in bed—called out to her.

When she turned around, she met his concerned blue eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

“Erich… what should I do? I’m a little scared…”

She hugged herself unconsciously as she said that.

“What are you afraid of?”

Suddenly, she felt warmth in her hand.

At some point, Erich had come close and was firmly holding her hand.

“I just thought it would be nice to have something, and it suddenly appeared in my item box. It feels… scary.”

More than happiness at her wish being granted, she felt fear toward the power she had unconsciously used.

“I see.”

Erich gently led her to a chair and had her sit down.

Then he knelt in front of her and looked up at her.

“Are you afraid because you can’t control your power?”

Asked in a gentle voice, her feelings gradually began to calm.

“…Yeah. Maybe. I can’t control it, so I don’t know when my wishes might come true.”

It had been careless of her to say her wish out loud.

But she hadn’t expected it to come true so easily.

“What did you wish for?”

“Some foreign seasonings. I was cooking and wanted to try them.”

She still couldn’t bring herself to talk about her previous life.

After explaining that much, she took them out of the item box and showed him.

“These. They’re called miso and soy sauce. Have you heard of them?”

“No, I haven’t. So they’re foreign seasonings.”

After looking at them with curiosity, Erich placed them on the table and firmly held Chloe’s hand again.

“If it’s you, Chloe—someone who’s scared after granting such a small wish—you’ll be fine. The witch I know… the princess… was greedy. She kept granting one wish after another and acted entirely as she pleased.”

Whenever he spoke of the princess, his refined face darkened slightly.

“I’m sure you’re unconsciously controlling your power already. So you don’t need to be afraid.”

His gentle, reassuring tone—like comforting a child—eased her anxiety.

“Yeah… thank you.”

Rather than fearing it blindly, she needed to face it positively and learn to control it properly.

Finally feeling that way, Chloe smiled.

“I’ll do my best. It’s my power, after all. I have to be the one to handle it.”
