Chapter 28: The Bear Looks for a Place to Dismantle Monsters
When we arrive in front of the guild, Fina says she’ll wait outside, so I go in alone.
It’s understandable.
She probably doesn’t want to go inside with a bunch of rough, sweaty men.
There are plenty of idiots who immediately start bothering children whenever they see them.
“I’ll be right back.”
I enter the guild and head to the reception desk.
Helen is there.
There isn’t anyone in line, so I walk over to her counter.
“Yuna, are you here to report a completed request?”
“Yep, I finished it.”
“Then may I have your guild card, please?”
I hand over my guild card.
Helen checks the request registered on it.
“Yuna, you accepted a Tiger Wolf subjugation request!?”
“I did.”
“And you accepted it today and completed it today!?”
Helen’s loud shout causes the adventurers in the guild hall to start making a commotion.
“Tiger Wolves, she says.”
“She soloed a D-rank monster?”
“But the place where Tiger Wolves appear is pretty far from here, isn’t it? Can someone make a round trip in a single day?”
“You don’t know?”
“Know what?”
“The bears.”
“The bears? You mean that girl’s outfit?”
“No. She summoned bears and rode them there.”
“Summoned beasts? Bears?”
“I saw them myself. Two of them. One white and one black.”
Another adventurer joins the conversation.
“Two of them!?”
“And those bears were fast.”
The discussion behind me grows louder, but our own conversation continues.
“Now then, Yuna. Could you please show me the proof-of-subjugation magic stones?”
I take out two magic stones from the Bear Box.
“Two of them?”
“There were two Tiger Wolves.”
My mention of two wolves causes another uproar behind me, but I ignore it.
Helen accepts the stones and places them on the crystal plate.
“Yes, there is no mistake. Both were subjugated today.”
“The request was for one Tiger Wolf, so we can increase the reward accordingly. Would that be acceptable?”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
“What happens if I refuse?”
“You would only receive the reward for one Tiger Wolf, and your guild card would only register one subjugation.”
“The extra magic stone would then be returned to you.”
“I don’t need the magic stone right now, so register both.”
“Understood. I’ll register it as two Tiger Wolf subjugations.”
“Now then, if you’ll excuse me, do you happen to have the Tiger Wolf materials with you?”
Helen’s gaze shifts toward my Bear Box.
“I do, but I’m not selling them.”
“Is that so? The guild would appreciate it if you did.”
“I want the fur, so no.”
That’s right.
I’m planning to have Fina skin the striped Tiger Wolves and decorate my plain Bear House with the pelts.
They’d look good hanging on the wall.
Or spread across the floor.
“I see. That’s unfortunate about the fur, but what about the fangs, claws, and meat?”
“I don’t need those. I’ll bring them once they’re dismantled.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Then here is your reward, along with your guild card.”
I store the surprisingly heavy pouch of money and my guild card inside the Bear Box.
After parting with Helen, I head outside to meet Fina.
“Sorry for the wait. Let’s head back.”
“You’re not selling the wolves and horned rabbits?”
“I’ll do it another time. It’s too much trouble right now. Don’t worry, I’ll pay you properly.”
The truth is that I simply forgot to put the dismantled materials back into the Bear Box after leaving them in the Bear House.
Still, I can’t just refuse to pay Fina after all her work.
“Yuna Big Sister.”
Fina stares at the silver coin I hand her with wide eyes.
“It’s fine.”
Before this, I had asked Gentz about the market rate for monster dismantling work.
I’ve given her a little more than that.
“I won’t necessarily stay in this town forever.”
“So save it.”
“Thank you, Yuna Big Sister.”
Fina smiles brightly.
I pat her head.
The next morning, Fina arrives at the inn bright and early again.
After everything we did yesterday, I feel like telling her to take a day off.
I was planning to rest today myself.
But I forgot to tell her that yesterday, so it’s my own fault.
Besides, going outside every single time just to dismantle monsters is becoming a hassle.
Maybe I should rent a warehouse somewhere.
Though that would cost money.
If I could rent space in the guild’s warehouse, that would be ideal.
For now, I’ll just ask the guild.
I take Fina with me and head there.
Since we left later than usual, there aren’t many adventurers around.
I walk over to Helen’s reception desk, where she looks completely bored.
“Good morning, Yuna.”
“Morning.”
“Are you taking a request today as well?”
“Actually, I wanted to ask something.”
“What is it?”
“Is there somewhere I can rent to dismantle monsters?”
“For the Tiger Wolves?”
“For those too, but also for other monsters.”
“It would be nice if I could rent part of the guild warehouse.”
“That would be difficult.”
“I figured.”
“And you’re looking for a long-term arrangement rather than a short-term rental, correct?”
“Hmm, I’m not really sure.”
“If that’s the case, it would be difficult for me to recommend another place.”
“…I know.”
“Is there any empty land available somewhere?”
“Land?”
“Yeah.”
“A fairly large empty area.”
“There should be, but land isn’t under the Adventurers Guild’s jurisdiction.”
“You’d probably have better luck speaking with the Merchants Guild.”
“The Merchants Guild?”
“Yes.”
“It’s a guild that handles commercial transactions.”
“They also deal with land, so they should be able to introduce you to something suitable.”
“Got it.”
“I’ll go check it out.”
When I ask Fina whether she knows where the Merchants Guild is located, she says she does.
So we decide to head there immediately.
