Chapter 18: The Bear’s Rainy Day Off (Part 1)

It had been raining since morning, so I voluntarily stayed holed up inside.

To pass the time, I read a book about monsters.

Most of them were the same creatures you’d see in games, novels, or manga.

It might be interesting to travel the world and look for them someday.

After reading for a while, my stomach reminded me it was lunchtime, so I went down to the dining hall.

Despite the rain, there were plenty of customers inside.

When I asked Elena about it, she said,

“Yeah, the stalls outside are completely wiped out because of the rain. Customers all gather in places where they can stay dry.”

That made sense.

You couldn’t run a stall in the rain, and customers wouldn’t want to buy food in it either, not to mention figuring out where to eat.

Naturally, everyone would choose a place with shelter.

I looked around the dining hall for a seat, but there weren’t any available.

I didn’t really want to share a table, so I was about to come back later when—

“Yuna, I’m sorry, but there aren’t any seats available. Would it be alright if you ate in your room?”

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

“Thank you. We’d normally prioritize guests staying at the inn like you, but…”

“It’s okay. Then I’ll take today’s special.”

“Understood. I’ll bring it to your room right away, so please wait there.”

I returned to my room, and about five minutes later, there was a knock on the door.

That was quick.

“Yuna, could you open the door?”

When I opened it, Elena was holding a tray of steaming food.

Lunch wasn’t included with the stay, so I took the food, set it on the table, and paid her.

“Thank you very much.”

“Good luck with work.”

“Yes, this is the best time to earn money.”

She replied cheerfully and went back downstairs.

I gratefully ate the meal placed on the table.

Stir-fried vegetables with meat, warm soup, and freshly baked bread.

I was thankful for the hot food.

I took a bite of the bread, but I was starting to miss rice.

Bread was tasty, but as a Japanese person, I really wanted rice.

I also wanted ramen—though I had no idea if it existed in this world.

Maybe I’d ask Elena next time.

After finishing my meal, I thought about what to do in the afternoon.

I brought up my status screen.

When I checked this morning, a new skill had been added.

“Bear Map”… Seriously, does everything have to be “Bear” now?

Bear Map
Allows you to create a map based on the places seen by the bear’s eyes.

When I activated Bear Map, a map centered on my current location appeared, showing the area around the town, the eastern forest, and the village near the western gate where the goblins had appeared.

It looked like a trail left by a slug crawling around.

Everything else was completely black.

It felt just like a game.

It was useful, but it was a bit disappointing that it only showed places I’d already been.

Though, if the entire world map were revealed from the start, that might be boring too.

So maybe this was fine.

Looking at the map up to the goblin king’s cave reminded me of something.

I took out a sword from the Bear Box.

The sword that the goblin king had been carrying.

It no longer had that ominous aura from before.

Now it was just a clean, silver blade.

Goblin King’s Sword
Level: 7
Effects: Strength Boost, Magic Effect

Strength Boost
Increases the user’s physical strength.

Magic Effect
Allows magic to be imbued into the sword.

The sinister aura must have been a manifestation of the goblin king’s power.

When I channeled my magic into it, it shone with a clean silver light.

If it had turned black, I would’ve been pretty depressed, so I was glad it didn’t.

I might end up using it in the future, so I planned to test it out on a sunny day.

But it didn’t look like the rain would stop today.

I thought about what to do, but there was really nothing.

I had plenty of experience being a shut-in, but that lifestyle depended on having the internet, TV, novels, or manga.

Without any entertainment, it was surprisingly boring.

The only thing left to do was sleep.

But if I slept during the day, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

Back in Japan, even if I couldn’t sleep at night, I’d have things to do—like browsing the internet, reading manga or novels, or playing games.

But in this world, there was nothing to do at night.

So I tried to think of something I could do now.

When I held the goblin king’s sword earlier, I noticed a bit of flabbiness in my arms, so I decided to do some strength training.

My upper arms were soft and squishy.

Thanks to the bear equipment, I could do push-ups endlessly without getting tired.

That made me wonder if I’d ever lose the flab, so I took off the bear gear and changed into my underwear.

Well, technically I was wearing a shirt on top.

But on the bottom, it was just my bear panties.

The underwear I bought the other day didn’t feel good on my skin, so I hadn’t worn them.

Maybe I should visit a high-end shop next time.

Thinking about that, I tried doing push-ups.

Yeah… I couldn’t even do ten.

Nothing had changed from when I was in Japan.

I gave up on fixing my flabby arms and put the bear suit back on.

Habits are scary—I was gradually getting used to this bear outfit.
